Foundations Staff

We believe that the culture and staff at each of our facilities can be the difference maker for every individual in our care.

Each staff member brings a combination of education, training, professional certifications and hands-on experience. Approaching recovery work from a variety of disciplines and therapeutic modalities allows our teams to create a truly comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.

Many members of our team are in recovery themselves, and are excited to share the fulfillment they have found with you. We are real people in recovery, we have been where you are, and we are excited to help each individual find long term recovery.

Each member of our team will facilitate your success, and be on your side at every turn, serving as a resource and a role model to help you live clean and sober.

Sarah Wilson

Office Manager

Sarah Wilson is our office manager at Foundations. Sarah is originally from Frederick County, Maryland, and is working towards a degree in Psychology. She enjoys working out, being outside and above all, spending time with her son.

What drew you to working in this field?

As someone in recovery myself, I want to help those who are struggling and show them it is possible to live a happy, functional life without drugs or alcohol.

What is your passion?

I’m passionate about being a Mom and helping others. The best part of my job is being part of a great team and contributing to a positive environment for our clients. As someone in recovery, I feel it is important to uplift those who are struggling and show them happiness is possible in recovery. The most meaningful moment is getting to witness the light come back in their eyes as they start to recover and get their life and happiness back.

What makes Foundation stand out?

We are an abstinence based program, which I am a firm believer in. The majority of our staff is also in recovery, and every one of us has our own unique story and passion for wanting to help the struggling addict.

Christina Wilson

Case Manager/ Intake Coordinator

Christina Wilson serves as Case Manager and Intake Coordinator at Foundations Recovery Center. Christina's work is vital; she works with every individual who comes through our doors, assessing their needs and strengths and helping them find the tools to take back their lives. When not at work, Christina enjoys spending time in nature, exploring the great outdoors.

What is your passion?

I am passionate about treating the whole self; mind, body, and spirit, finding balance, and increasing positive energy. I thrive in the great outdoors and enjoy nurturing a love for life in myself and others.

What is the most rewarding part of working at Foundations?

The best part about my job is watching the "light" come back on in a client's eyes. They come to us with just a small glimmer of hope, which ignites into a drive and dedication to learn to live free from active addiction.

Josie Markus

Therapy Dog

Josie is a 12-year old mixed-breed terrier who was rescued when she was 8 years old. She enjoys eating, walking in the woods, and following her mom around the house. Josie was certified as a therapy dog by “Paws for People” in 2015 when she was 9 years old. Since then, she has worked at several agencies and enjoys helping clients feel more relaxed and comfortable by being petted and wagging her tail. Josie now enjoys her job at Foundations Recovery Center where she is employed full-time as a therapy dog.

Rachel Markus, LCSW-C

Clinical Director

Rachel Markus is our Clinical Director at Foundations, a LCSW-C and a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park and the University of Maryland's School of Social Work's master's program. Rachel has worked in the mental health and substance abuse fields since 2010, working with individuals, families and groups to help clients find recovery.

What is the most rewarding part of working at Foundations?

The best part of my job is being able to connect with clients who have lived in the darkness of addiction and being able to see the light come back on in their eyes. I strive to create a safe space for clients to heal from the pain of active addiction as well as past traumas, and to gain the freedom and skills to deal with the challenges inherent in living life without drugs or alcohol. I have been working in the mental health and substance abuse fields since 2010 and have worked with individuals, families and groups at both mental health and substance abuse agencies.

What makes Fresh Start stand out?

We are a relatively new treatment center and have a lot of enthusiastic staff who really want to make a difference in the lives of others. We also come from a holistic model where we aren't just treating drug and alcohol use disorders, but integrating mental health treatment, case management, family therapy, and incorporating life skills and employment support to help clients re-integrate back into society.

How do you meet your clients where they are, in order to help them move forward?

I strive to create a safe space for clients to heal from the pain of active addiction as well as past traumas, and to gain the freedom and skills to deal with the challenges inherent in living life without drugs or alcohol.
